Stamford Downtown - Public art

Every year or so, Stamford Downtown host a public art contest - this years theme was 'Shapes' and my design was one of 39 chosen from 150 entries. It will be on display on the streets of Stamford over the summer before being auctioned off to the highest bidder in September.

As a freelancer, I'm used to working on multiple projects as they all pile in at the same time. However, this time I was trying to move house and take on this project on top of keeping my regular clients happy. As this is my 5th public art piece for Stamford, I knew how long it would take me to paint this design on a 4'sq cube so I printed the design on vinyl. Crisis averted, house moved, projects done. I never thought it was going to be possible to turn this around in 1 week.

Having some important play time with the latest storm.

As a creative I find that I often start something for fun and my brain inherently tries to turn it into a marketable idea. That's not always a bad thing - but I find it can slow down the creative process or stop it all together. I find It helps to be creative in ways that don't have anything to do with your job. Here's a little snow sculpture I made the other day. It's important to play!

Happy Halloween!

No time for real costumes this year so had to do some last minute digital makeup!

Inktober sketches

Tried to get involved in Inktober this year but only managed a measly 6 doodles.  Having a newborn and a busy work schedule doesn't allow for much spare time!  Next year I'll see if I can get a little further!

Book Cover design - A Rock Memoir by Richard Loren

I had the pleasure of designing the book cover for Richard Loren, a music agent who has worked with some of the biggest Rock legends including Jefferson Airplane, The Doors and the Grateful Dead. I really enjoyed reading it too.  He has some great stories, like when he worked with Jim Morrison during his crazy days.  (Jim has Richard to thank for bailing him out of Jail in New Haven.)
Available to buy as ebook on Amazon August 2014.
Hardcover and Paperback will be available on November 2014

Design for Stamford Downtown Street Art exhibit 2014

All I knew was that I wanted this design to Interact with the people walking by.  I felt that I wanted to tell them to take a break and take a seat. Sometimes, it seems we're all too busy to take a second out to just sit on a bench and watch the world go by.  I heard Ferris Bueller's voice in my head and knew I had to include his notorious quote...

'Life moves pretty fast, if you don't STOP and look around once in a while, you might just miss it'

I translated the quote literally as a blink into the future where space monkey's (obviously) have taken over Downtown Stamford and are now running the joint. It's going to happen before you know it, so you'd better enjoy the right now!  Well, it's either that...or Zombies.  I'll post the final version here when it's ready...

The Bogies on the front cover of The Dandy!

I'm very proud to have designed the front cover for the worlds longest running comic!  Unfortunately, more kids are playing on the computer and sales have dwindled to a print run of 8,000.  They will end the print version and go exclusively online starting January 2013.
